Contributing to a better world,

one thriving individual at a time.

Hello,

I'm Dirk De Smaele, Partner of A Transformational Journey. I live in Belgium and work worldwide as trainer, coach and consultant.

My professional journey began with a clear, promising path as an engineer. I started at a global healthcare company, fueled by enthusiasm and curiosity. My career opened doors I never imagined—opportunities to live and work across the globe and leading global teams in highly matrixed organizations. This broadened my understanding of diverse cultures and deepened my ability to foster community and collaboration within a global network. As I progressed into an R&D executive role, I found immense satisfaction in guiding leaders to discover their true potential, sharing my knowledge, and nurturing collaboration and lasting relationships across the globe.

However, as my career advanced, I also experienced a shift. The curious, eager-to-learn-and-teach person found himself in competition with a growing ego—one that pushed me to go faster, aim higher, and define my identity through job titles and the perks that came with them. The ego was even willing to sacrifice my health for its purpose.

It would have been easy to blame external factors, but I recognize that these were (at that time) unconscious choices I made. It took considerable effort and reflection to bring these unconscious decisions to light. Insights such as how being a workaholic, kept me from addressing emotional and spiritual challenges, and how I had become an “insecure overachiever” who is never fully satisfied. (*)

After a fulfilling 28-year career, I made the difficult decision to leave my corporate role and fully dedicate myself to my true passion—coaching people, teams, and fostering transformational leadership.

Embracing all facets of myself has given me a deeper understanding of others, allowing me to connect with people on a more human level, seeing them beyond their roles or titles. My aspiration is to help individuals and organizations reach their fullest potential. I aim to inspire and guide others on their journeys, always emphasizing the shared humanity that connects us all.

Feel free to contact me via mail, phone or on linkedin.

I'm there to support you in becoming the best version of yourself and in making a difference in the world in your unique way.

Dirk
